Vuodesta 2024 lähtien on Miss Universum -kilpailussa valittu myös eri maanosien Miss Universumit. Näitä ovat Euroopan ja Lähi-idän Miss Universum, Aasian Miss Universum, Amerikan Miss Universum ja Afrikan ja Oseanian Miss Universum. 2024 Euroopan ja Lähi-idän Miss Universumiksi valittiin Suomen .
Miss Suomi lähtee edustamaan kotimaataan vuosittain Miss Universe -kilpailuun.
Miss Universum –kilpailun perusti vuonna 1952 kalifornialainen vaateyhtiö Pacific Knitting Mills. Vuonna 1996 yhdysvaltalainen liikemies Donald Trump osti kilpailun oikeudet yhdessä NBC Universalin kanssa ja kisat olivat heidän omistuksessa aina vuoteen 2015 asti. Nykyisin kisan omistus on amerikkalaisella talenttiyrityksellä WME/IMG.

The Miss Suomi was held for the first time in 1931. Between 1952 and 1955 the winner of went to , where was also crowned as the first Miss Universe in Long Beach by actress in 1952.
In 1956 due to lack of sponsorship, the national pageant of Suomen Neito was not held and made Finland withdraw from the competition. In 1960 Finland returned to Miss Universe with the second runner-up of Miss Suomi 1960, Maija-Leena Manninen, representing the country.
Suomi on voittanut kisat kaksi kertaa. Armi Kuusela kruunattiin kaikkien aikojen ensimmäiseksi Miss Universumiksi Kalifornian Long Beachilla. Anne Pohtamo toi Suomelle toisen Miss Universum -kisan voiton vuonna 1975.

The Miss Suomi Organization owns the rights to produce three titleholders to the grand slam beauty pageants; , and . The winner automatically becomes Miss Universe Finland while runners-up are crowned as Miss World Finland and Miss International Finland. Before 2007 Miss Suomi Organization also sent a delegate to Miss Europe.
